Dear Friends of German Comedy,

What a weekend – I hit the big time. German public service broadcaster ZDF featured me prominently in last Saturday’s transmission of the Wales-Germany match. To be fair, my exposure was limited to two seconds of being a face in the crowd during the national anthems. But you have to start somewhere and the shortness might have been all for the better as I must have looked the worse for wear by that time.

Nationalmannschaft isn’t the only German institution on top form. Our police force folded a planned terrorist attack on Frankfurt airport and the US airbase in Ramstein. There has never been a successful Muslim terror attack in Germany. Because Polizei won’t allow it. And rightly so. Otherwise what would be the point of having the boys in green?

At long last there is proof of me being a daring adventurer: I rode through the Scottish Highlands from Fort William to Malling – on a steam-train! Admittedly, it was far less Wild West than it sounds. The gently moving train was full of young families, pensioners and trainspotters. Hence, everybody must have thought I was a trainspotter. Nothing could be further from the truth! We all know that the Fatherland has no history of trainspotting as trains are moving far too fast to take down their registration number!!! [the old ones are the best ones]

The trip to the Highlands was a pleasant end to the overindulgence that was the Edinburgh Festival. You will all be pleased to learn that German humour is going from strength to strength. A Beginner’s Guide to German Humour got on average an impressive 4.18 stars per review. At next year’s festival Otto Kuhnle and I want to improve our star rating by a further 5% and score an average of 4.39.

And expect my talk with Falklands veteran Nick Wilty to become a regular fixture in London in some shape or form. Nothing will stop us once we truly understand our own concept.

Auf Wiedersehen – have a great month!
Henning
