Dear Friends of German Comedy,
It’s 30 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall and 30 days until yet another general election.
I had a quick glance at some odds and here’s my tip:
Back Keir Starmer at 18/1 to become next Prime Minister.
It’s highly unlikely that a Conservative will be BoJo’s successor and if Corbyn loses this December he’s unlikely to stand again, in which case Starmer could be Labour leader by the time of the next election and thus, in 2024, beat Johnson. That’s 18/1 for you!
Unless Labour decide their next leader has to be female in which case the bet goes up in smoke.
Mind you, if that female candidate doesn’t win in 2024 and Johnson stays on, then Starmer can still succeed Johnson in 2029. Again, 18/1 payday!
But that’s 10 years from now and by then you probably won’t remember where you’ve put the betting slip. It’s a mugs’ game!
In other matters: you won’t hear me say a bad word about (Highly Selective) Remembrance events ever again.
I am usually in a real rush after a Saturday gig to make it to the hotel in time for Match Of The Day. But thanks to the BBC’s broadcasting of Festival of Remembrance from the Albert Hall goals weren’t flying in until 11pm, making for a very relaxed walk to the accommodation.
I got in with so much time to spare I even caught the show’s finale: a dysfunctional family singing a rousing song to some old dear. Cockle-warming stuff.
